What is BAIAbase?

BAIAbase is a web-based, public, open, editable database of companies that have a direct Italy-USA business connection. BAIA is a service designed and built by BAIA, Business Association Italy America. You can find an overview presentation of BAIAbase Beta here.

What kind of companies can I find on BAIAbase?

You can find companies that have a strong business relationships between USA and Italy. For example, you can find Italian subsidiaries of American companies (and viceversa) or US-based companies with large Italian ownership or companies that provide products and services that facilitate the business activity between Italy and the US.

How can I search for a company on BAIAbase?

Go to the BAIAbase homepage and insert a keyword in the search box. You can also use the Advanced Search, by clicking on the “Search” tab. By using Advanced Search you can search based on specific criteria such as country, category, and type of activity of the company.

Who keeps BAIAbase updated?

Anyone can add, change or edit a company record on BAIAbase. Much like Wikipedia, BAIAbase is maintained by its users. In order to ensure basic quality of the data, BAIAbase is moderated and every change to the database must be approved by BAIA staff before it becomes public and visible.

I found an error in a BAIAbase entry. Why BAIA doesn’t fix it?

BAIA is not “responsible” to maintain accurate data in BAIAbase. Anyone can correct a factual error by submitting a change of a company record. Much like Wikipedia, BAIAbase is maintained by its users. BAIA staff simply moderates and approves every change before it becomes public and visible.

Can I add a new company to BAIAbase?

Yes. Anyone can add a company to BAIAbase. All you need to do is go to the BAIA homepage and click on the “Add Company” tab. However, before you do so, we recommend that you first search for the company, as it may already be in the database.

Can I modify a company on BAIAbase?

Yes. Anyone can modify a company record on BAIAbase. All you need to do is go to the company page and clik on the “Edit” button on the top bar.

Can I delete a company on BAIAbase?

No. Only BAIA can inactivate or delete a company entry from BAIAbase.

What kind of companies can I add to BAIAbase?

Currently, in order to be approved to be listed on BAIAbase a company must meet the following criteria:

• The company must be a registered corporation (i.e. SpA, Srl, LLC or Inc)
• The company must be currently operational and active or must have been active in the past 12 months.

Additionally, if the company is in Italy, the company must meet at least one one of the following criteria:

• Facilitates business between Italy and USA (transportation, import/export etc.) as its primary business
• Provides services to American companies entering the Italian market as its primary business
• Is an Italian branch of an US company
• Has significant US ownership/management (more than 30%)
• Is actively doing business in the US as its primary international market

If the company is in the USA, the company must meet at least one one of the following criteria:

• Facilitates business between Italy and USA (transportation, import/export etc.) as its primary business
• Provides services to Italian companies entering the US market as its primary business
• Is an American branch of an Italian company
• Has significant Italian ownership/management (more than 30%)

I have added a new company. Why can’t I see it in the search results? 

Each new company record on BAIAbase, as well as any change to existing companies, but be approved by BAIA before they become visible and appear in the search engine results. Changes are usually reviewed within 24-48 hours.

Why must new companies be approved before they are published?

The companies in BAIAbase must meet certain minimum criteria in order to be listed in the database. In addition, to maintain BAIAbase quality standards, BAIA checks basic publicly available information before approving a new company.

Can I “claim” a company record?

No. At this stage it is not possible to claim a BAIAbase company record.

Is BAIAbase free?

Yes. Anyone can use BAIAbase for free.

How can I support BAIAbase?

BAIAbase has been mostly built by volunteers who donated hundreds of hours of work, but to continue to operate, BAIAbase needs financial support from sponsors and members. You can support BAIAbase by donating to BAIAbase or becoming a supporter of BAIA.
